Mauricio Pochettino
The 46-year-old is admired for turning Tottenham Hotspur into a top four side in England, having also caught the eye at Southampton and Espanyol. Likely to top early shortlist drafts, although there is a feeling he will be too hard to lure from Spurs.
Massimiliano Allegri
Has enjoyed a successful spell at Juventus, where he has won the title for a second successive year. Said he intended to stay in Italy earlier this month. That, though, was before the Real Madrid job became available and the 50-year-old could be tempted.
Arsene Wenger
Out of work for the first time in 22 years following an emotional end to his Arsenal reign, the vastly experienced Frenchman is believed to have reservations about taking the Real Madrid job, while they would only turn to him as a fall back option.
Antonio Conte
His Chelsea exit has been on the cards for months, despite the fact he has won both the Premier League and the FA Cup during his two years in London. Also won the title in Italy with Juventus and is well respected in Spain.
Maurizio Sarri
Another Italian who is likely to be included in Real’s conversations. Is out of work after an impressive spell in charge of Napoli and is thought to be the favourite to succeed Conte at Chelsea.
