How Projects Don’t Get Done

  I have noticed that there is a fundamental difference in approach with projects that get done on time (and well) and projects that get delayed or get done shoddily. A project that will be done on time has a good project manager that is able to list out the tasks (step 1) and sort the tasks according to the impact they have (step 2). A great project manager will add an optional step 3: execute the project in an order that the stakeholders see visible progress. The best way to complete a project is to strip it down to the minimum possible. Then attack that minimum with the maximum possible effort.
