Dalian spending 5 billion yuan to build a replica city of Venice
Dalian spending 5 billion yuan to build a replica
city of Venice
Today, Chinese media reports that a “fake”
Venice has been built in Dalian, Liaoning
Province, spurred a hot discussion on China’s
social media platforms. Many Chinese netizens
support this commercial project and criticize the
media’s use of the word “fake”.
Photos released show that tourists can take a
boat through canals, modeled after the famous
Italian city. The news’ description of the pictures
as “fake Venice” led to many people’s
dissatisfaction.
“A company who doesn’t spend taxpayers’
money and develops a commercial project, in
which most areas are freely opened to the public
and the architecture is pretty good. I don’t know
why media say it is a fake version.”@Grace
Doggie squibs.
“Why media always calls it a copycat of Venice?
I’ve been there and it’s very beautiful with the
atmosphere of literature and art.”@guairongxin
said.
“I disagree with the negative word ‘fake’ used by
media. The oriental water city is a tourist symbol
which may attract many business companies and
investments.” @xiaolaohu speaks up.
The newly built eastern water city is located in
Dalian’s diamond harbor and covers more than
forty thousand square meters. It was designed
and created by a renowned French company.
Haichang company invested around 5 billion yuan
(787,000,000 US Dollar) into the project.
